The McLaren Macomb Breast Center now offers tomosynthesis 3D imaging mammograms. This low-dose imaging technology produces a revolutionary type of mammogram, providing images of tissue at only one millimeter thick. This enables our radiologists to view mammograms with a greater clarity than ever before and can help detect breast cancer at an earlier, more treatable stage.

“We are very proud to offer women this new advancement in breast cancer screening,” said Pat Keigher, director of the McLaren Macomb Breast Center and the Ted B. Wahby Cancer Center. “This new technology may be especially of interest to women who are at high risk for breast cancer or who have a family history of breast cancer.”
While exceptionally sharp breast images are produced using 3D imaging, the mammogram experience does not change for the patient. In fact, the system is designed to deliver superior screening and diagnostic performance with an advanced ergonomic design that provides more patient comfort.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, exceeded only by lung cancer, so mammograms are an important screening tool. If detected early, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer is 98 percent. McLaren Macomb encourages all women over 40 to talk with their physician about scheduling an annual mammogram.
