- National recognition – The Mat Gaberty Heart Center is a
fully accredited Chest Pain Center and was recognized by the Society ofCardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC) for its innovative processes, team work and
quality outcomes. In addition, McLaren Macomb is one of only three hospitals in
the state to have earned Heart Failure Accreditation from the (SCPC).
One more honor: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan recognized McLaren Macomb as one of the first hospitals in the nation to receive a Blue Distinction Center+ designation for cardiac care. Research shows that centers with this designation have better results for patients, plus lower rates of complications after certain procedures. - A rapid response plan – The cardiac team consistently
exceeds the national standard for “door-to-balloon time.” That’s a measure of
how quickly cardiac treatment (usually balloon angioplasty) is administered
when a patient first comes to the hospital with heart attack symptoms. McLaren
Macomb’s time is typically under 60 minutes – that’s well under the national
standard of 90 minutes.
- Specialty services – McLaren Macomb has a Heart Rhythm
Center and the county’s only lab for cardiac EP (electrophysiology) studies to
help diagnose and manage irregular heart rhythms. It also has a Heart Failure
Clinic that offers programs and support for patients with chronic heart
failure, and it has a specialized Vascular Institute which offers free
screenings for peripheral vascular disease (PVD).
- McLaren Macomb is the only hospital in Macomb County to
offer myocardial viability testing, a state-of-the-art test that determines
heart muscle health. The test utilizes a cardiac PET/CT Scan to look for
damaged heart muscle.
- Interventional cardiologists are trained in the most advanced techniques, including transradial angioplasty. With this procedure the cardiologist can open blocked arteries by inserting a tiny catheter through the radial artery in the wrist (rather than the more invasive groin procedure).
For residents in Macomb County, the cardiovascular programs
at McLaren Macomb offer the most advanced care, along with an individual focus
on each patient. For more information on cardiology services, visit
