According to statistics, more than 4.5 million children are injured at home each year. Here are some common sense safety tips to help keep your child safe.- Install safety latches on drawers and cabinets
- Store all medicines in child-proof containers in a secure cabinet
- Make sure blind cords are out of the reach of children
- To prevent falls, place safety gates at the top and bottom of stairs
- Check your crib’s safety standards on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s web site www.cpsc.gov
- Keep household cleaners out of the reach of children
- Check the temperature of the water before bathing your child
- Don’t leave your child alone in the bathtub
- Keep hot foods out of the reach of children
- Don’t allow children to play, eat or sleep near peeling paint
