Childhood injury prevention

 Quick Tips

According to statistics, more than 4.5 million children are injured at home each year. Here are some common sense safety tips to help keep your child safe.

  • Install safety latches on drawers and cabinets
  • Store all medicines in child-proof containers in a secure cabinet
  • Make sure blind cords are out of the reach of children
  • To prevent falls, place safety gates at the top and bottom of stairs
  • Check your crib’s safety standards on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s web site www.cpsc.gov
  • Keep household cleaners out of the reach of children
  • Check the temperature of the water before bathing your child
  • Don’t leave your child alone in the bathtub
  • Keep hot foods out of the reach of children
  • Don’t allow children to play, eat or sleep near peeling paint
